What is SWAT?
This article goes over Station70's SWAT feature.
SWAT stands for Secure Wallet Account Transfer. SWAT is Station70’s latest feature that allows enterprise customers to move their private keys from a backup to a standby wallet without exposing or reconstituting the material in a single online environment. In the event of a disaster, SWAT enables you to initiate a transfer of your digital assets from one wallet provider to another.
What is needed?
- Linked accounts
- The first step in SWAT is linking your accounts. Think of Station70 as the intermediator between your accounts. By adding our api to your Fireblocks and Fordefi accounts we are able to make a connection between the two accounts and facilitate a transfer in the event of a recovery.
- Standby Wallet at a supported Wallet
- In order to transfer your assets, it is best to be prepared. You will have your primary wallet, and you will need to create a Standby Wallet. Having both wallets ready and linked with Station70 will enable you to be ready to transfer at a moment's notice.
- Where am I able to transfer my assets?
- Currently you are only able to transfer your assets from Fireblocks to Fordfi. Transferring from Fordefi to Fireblocks is not available yet.
- How does it work?
- Account owners will link their Primary Wallet and Standby Wallets through Station70 in advance. When SWAT is initiated, Station70 transmits an encrypted version of your MPC key to your Standby Wallet. Account holders will then use their mobile device to submit their recovery password; and at no point will the Standby Wallet gain access to your private key. Instead, both server and user shares are transformed into the MPC format used by the Standby Wallet, enabling immediate transaction signing. Wallet addresses and balances are imported, ensuring the most up-to-date information while maintaining privacy throughout. The result is a seamless and secure transfer.
- Why is this safer than normal recovery?
- With SWAT you never have to expose or recover your private key. Instead your information remains locked away and your assets are moved over.
- How quick will I be able to recover using SWAT?
- With SWAT you will be able to transfer your assets between your accounts within minutes.
- Will all my coins be eligible for transfer?
- Currently BTC, ETH, and SOL will be supported for SWAT transfers.
- What is the Station70 API user?
- The Station70 API user is a secure integration user that allows your Fireblocks and Fordefi accounts to be linked. It does not grant Station70 access to modify your wallet or assets—its sole purpose is to enable secure linking and facilitate asset transfers when initiated by you. The Station70 API user is a read-only API user that retrieves the names of vault accounts, assets stored in each vault account, and the derivation path associated with each asset and address in a Fireblocks workspace.
- How do I get access to SWAT
- SWAT is available for users on the Pro and Enterprise plans.
